NICEIC Domestic Installers (Part P Approved)

What is the Part P Domestic Installer Scheme?

NICEIC's Domestic Installer Scheme has been approved to register installers to Full Scope or Defined Competence for domestic electrical installation work in accordance with Part P Building Regulations.

The scopes of registration are:

Full Scope:
The scope of work covers the full range of domestic electrical installation work. This is those businesses that carry out electrical installation work as the main part of their business. However, other businesses wishing to be registered as full scope, must provide level A type work for assessment (see definition matrix below).

If the main activity of the business is not electrical installation work and involves only additions to existing circuits, then the Defined Competence route will be more appropriate.

Defined Competence
The scope of work is limited to Level B type electrical installation work in connection with , or ancillary to, some other non-electrical work (see definition matrix below).
Examples of work/installations that fall within the scope of Defined Competence:

Plumbing
Kitchen, bathroom and bedroom
Security systems
Gas heating
Loft Conversions
Telecommunications
Oil-Fired heating
Extensions
Door/gate entry
Solid fuel heating
Conservatories
CCTV
Extractor fans
Garden installations
Maintenance
Air conditioning
Swimming pools
Stair lifts
Spa baths

The approach to registration with NICEIC's Domestic Installer Scheme is the same for Full Scope and Defined Competence.

NICEIC Approved Contractors

NICEIC’s Approved Contractor Scheme is designed to maintain and publish a register of electrical contractors that have been assessed against a specific set of competency requirements, in particular the national electrical safety standard BS 7671 the IEE Wiring Regulations.

The register of contractors is formally known as the Roll of Approved Contractors and is operated by NICEIC under license from the Electrical Safety Council. The aim of the Roll is to promote the use of competent persons and provide users of contracting services with a single source directory of competent contractors.

Registered contractors will work to the UK national standard, BS 7671, and will issue a safety certificate for their electrical work to confirm that the installation has been designed, constructed, inspected and tested in accordance with the standard.

The NICEIC Approved Contractor Scheme is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to EN 45011 - General requirements for bodies operating product certification systems. Accreditation ensures that the scheme is operated with independence and integrity and that it focuses on the quality and safety of the final installation.
